They're In There

There's something about restaurants in the middle of nowhere. The best meals I've ever had were often hundreds of miles from any major city.

I have a theory: after waking up at 3 or 4 a.m., hunting all morning in the wet and cold, your expectations for food are pretty low. By that point, you've probably burned a healthy amount of calories just dealing with the morning's bullshit, so you’re starving. Then, when you step into one of these bar/restaurants, and you're greeted by a smiling Midwesterner with an ice-cold beer and a perfectly cooked burger, it makes everything taste that much better. Guaranteed they'll ask you how you did that morning too.

There was this exact bar about 10 miles from where I took this photo. Unbelievable burger and fries. They got their beef from a local rancher. I chatted with the bartender for long enough he gave me a coveted "drink token." I still have that chip in my desk.
